IMPACT OF AWARENESS AND ADOPTION OF CLOUD BASED ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE AMONG ACCOUNTING PRACTITIONERS IN COLOMBO SRI LANKA
    (2025-05-12)
    Chanadralal, Thuiya Handi Harith Udara
This qualitative inquiry probes awareness and acceptance of cloud-based accounting software among accounting professionals in Sri Lanka in particular, professionals operational in Colombo. As globality in accounting continues to trend toward digitalization, the promotion of efficiency, accuracy, and real-time collaboration by cloud-based solutions is becoming a must. This study attempts to fulfill three main objectives: (1) find out how much awareness and adoption of cloud-based accounting software currently exist; (2) establish critical drivers and barriers impacting adoption; and (3) understand challenges and capability requirements for effective implementation. The research, relying on semi-structured interviews with selected accounting practitioners, engages with their experiences, perceptions, and contexts at length. Other semi-structured interviews where data were collected were analyzed applying thematic analysis; the findings reveal that cloud-based awareness is moderately high in Sri Lanka, although the adoption of the software is notably different, with a full-fledged integration for other practitioners, while nearly absent for some. Foremost among drivers are efficiency, automation, and the ability for real-time collaboration, while resistance to change, data security concerns, and limited technical skills are considered common inhibitors. The study also discusses challenges like the data migration burden and organizational resistance, which in turn trigger the need for technical, analytical, and digital skills from the practitioners. The research highlights the need for the broad-based acceptance of software in Sri Lanka's accounting sector, thus generating tremendous interest from all stakeholders of the network: practitioners, firms, policymakers, and software providers. It recommends specific training, leadership support, and a proper regulatory framework to impact the wider adoption of cloud accounting systems. Areas available for further research are suggested as inter-regional comparisons and long-term impacts of cloud accounting on accounting practices in emerging economies.

What are the key challenges in property maintenance and how can strategies mitigate these crises for sustainability?
    (2025-05-19)
    Esqueda Biraghi, A Daniel
The research revolved around the treatment of ongoing crises in property maintenance, including determining the property maintenance current treatment, the principal crises involved, the principle causes of those crises, the impacts on an operation, and potential solutions. The issue of property maintenance in the construction sector has become a more prominent challenge with aging property, reactive maintenance techniques, and limited resources. The research has considered how organisation systemic weaknesses and project environments may have resulted in a history of failures in property maintenance. The research was structured around five themes: current practices in the industry, major maintenance crises, causes of those crises, impacts of the crises, and solutions to those crises. The study was designed as qualitative method research in that it presents data drawn from semi-structured interviews with maintenance managers, contractors, and facility managers. Thematic analysis of qualitative interview data was analysed and processed selected from participant’s responses. The results showed that most organisations relied heavily on reactive maintenance, with very limited utilisation of predictive or preventive maintenance. In the interviews, many challenges were mentioned, including high costs, labour shortages, older buildings, and communication during the maintenance service which result in increased costs and safety issues and delays in operations and loss of tenant satisfaction. The research found that although there were improvements in the introduction of technology such as Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), the usage of these systems is inconsistent by all organisations and in some cases by small organisations. As a result, effective solutions required a commitment to preventive maintenance, training associated with the increased investment, and incorporating sufficient technology. The research participants suggested considering maintenance as early as possible in the design and construction process. All participants indicated that a more proactive, better funded and technology-enriched culture towards maintenance would help to reduce maintenance crises in the construction industry and help maintain and improve an asset's performance over its life cycle.

Consumer purchasing behaviour in small Local grocery stores: exploring Psychological, Social, and Economic Influences
    (2025-05-11)
    Pereira Fontes, Nairton
This research explores the key factors influencing consumer purchasing behavior in small grocery stores, a context often overlooked in academic literature, which tends to focus on large supermarkets or even retail chains. The study addresses this gap by applying a mixed-method approach, quantitative surveys data collected with customers and qualitative interviews with grocery stores managers to measure consumers motivations, preferences and behavior in a small grocery stores environment. Key findings reveal that factors such as price and product quality, emotional and social influences which include trust, community belonging, convenience and personalized service, significantly shape purchasing decision. These insights contribute to a better understanding of small local retail dynamics and offer practical recommendations to support small local grocery retailers to adapt to consumers’ expectations and enhance competitiveness in this increasing market.
